Re: Marcelo Bielsa new manager of West Ham
I believe Bielsa does utilise wingbacks but in an even more advanced position. Three centre backs assisted by one defensive midfielder. It can go wrong though, they lost heavily at home in April by 3-5. Just like the old days at West Ham.

From some frog site:

Key meeting between Marcelo Bielsa and Vincent Labrune today

According to our colleagues at La Provence, a key meeting will take place today between Marcelo Bielsa and Vincent Labrune which should finalise the Argentinian’s future either way.

According to RMC and Le Parisien, a deal was quasi-agreed yesterday regarding a two year contract extension.

Marcelo Bielsa has not left France since the end of the Ligue 1 season last weekend and was present in Toulon yesterday to watch the Toulon tournament with two other members of his coaching staff. More to follow in the coming hours, a decision is close.

After reading that, I very much like the cut of his jib. The english language thing doesn't sound quite so important now. The players have already been well drilled on the mixing of defensive and offensive duties, which is Sam's way too, it's just Bielsa leans more towards attack by passing to feet, and some interesting formation ideas.

Fishing trip or not, I wouldn't be upset if this turns out to be true.

This too:

As for Bielsa, look no further than his nickname: el loco. He is definitely something of a nutter. He's inspired, no doubt about it, but having watched a lot of their games over the season, I doubt the longevity of his methods. The pressing game he demands simply isn't sustainable, certainly not without a big squad with real quality in depth (not the case at OM).

And so it proved, with the season starting really well, the players buying in, running round like loons to win the ball back and attacking at will. Second half of the season was more complicated with the players knackered, complaints about how hard the training was and the results falling off in a big way. This isn't new. His approach is great in theory, always starts off well but doesn't quite deliver in the end.

Re: Marcelo Bielsa new manager of West Ham
Posted this on the "he's gone" thread :

Bielsa leaving Marseille, never mind coming to WHU, is not being reported on the OM site; nor in l'Equipe; nor on that of La Provence (the leading regional paper down there, always up to speed on OM); nor on RMC, the leading French sports radio, again generally very well informed...

In fact, a quick look at those sites suggests they're generally optimistic he'll stay. The owners want him to (extraordinary, they change their managers more of than their socks),it seems it'll come down to budget and the fact he'll have to sell players. Ball's definitely in Bielsa's court.

Re: Marcelo Bielsa new manager of West Ham
In all honesty I think we have a shortlist that changes daily but ultimately (I hope) the aim is to get in a genuine top quality manager.

It is a very attractive job/salary/package for someone and we simply can't afford to go down the Roeder or Grant road again. That lesson has hopefully been learned.
